Health and social care services

According to the World Health Organisation, between 2030 and 2050 climate change is expected to cause approximately 250,000 additional deaths per year. Climate change affects many of the key determinants of health – clean air, safe drinking water, sufficient food and secure shelter. Increased temperatures and more severe weather events will inevitably affect communities, as well as public health and social care services. These services need to be prepared and quick to adapt to new challenges emerging from the climate crisis.

Waste

While there have been some significant improvements made to reduce waste in the industry, companies need to go further by considering the lifecycle of a product and considering waste segregation at the source, rather than relying on waste companies to do so.

How we helped TP Health measure their carbon footprint

TP Health, the UK Division of Europe’s leading independent Occupational Health and Safety provider, achieved the first year of Planet Mark certification by measuring and reporting its carbon footprint and engaging its stakeholders. By achieving Planet Mark certification Team Prevent contributed to four United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Why the health and wellbeing industry should encourage certification

The climate crisis will inevitably impact the health and wellbeing industry. Increasing temperatures and more severe weather events are predicted to affect the health and wellbeing of communities with consequences far reaching to public health and social care services. In leading by example through measuring and reducing their carbon footprint, organisations in the health and wellbeing industry can encourage change, ensure a future-proofed business and create a positive impact on the planet and society.
