Certification story

Associated Architects have a passion for designing contemporary buildings using sustainable methods, technology and materials. In this crucial Decade of Action, measuring their own carbon footprint has been a critical step in reducing its impact on the planet and society.

Understanding its carbon footprint is the first step in identifying ways to minimise its impact on the planet. Achieving Planet Mark is based on the commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability in its business operations by measuring and reducing its carbon footprint and engaging its stakeholders.

Associated Architects has been at the forefront of sustainability for many years, creating buildings such as the UK’s largest Passivhaus project at the University of Leicester George Davies Centre for Medicine. But the company knows that sustainability is about more than meeting a set of criteria. It’s about fine-tuning the operational aspects of a building and ensuring it delivers on environmental credentials and efficiencies for its clients.

Steve Malkin
CEO
Planet Mark
“Welcome to Planet Mark, Associated Architects! This statement of climate action could not be more timely. Our building stock needs to dramatically change if we are to meet our climate goals, and Associated Architects have a long history of designing sustainable buildings for a net zero future. I am pleased that the team have taken the extra step of monitoring and reducing their own carbon emissions, alongside their stellar designs.”

People are already engaging with buildings and urban spaces in new and exciting ways, using detailed and innovative technologies that create responsive, intuitive, and efficient environments. Associated Architects is keen to be at the leading edge of new leaps forward in smart buildings and Internet of Things, creating the buildings of tomorrow, that are more in tune with the people who use them.

Through Planet Mark, Associated Architects have protected an area of endangered rainforest thanks to Cool Earth; a charity working alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation. The company’s pledge through Cool Earth directly supports the Asháninka community in Central Peru.

They are also helping the Eden Project – an educational charity building connections with each other and the living world, exploring how we can work together towards a better future.

Associated Architects has achieved Carbon Neutral status.
