Certification story

Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd, a multi-disciplinary construction company operating out of Stowe, Buckingham, has achieved Planet Mark certification.

Achieving the Planet Mark is based on the commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability in its business operations by measuring and reducing its carbon footprint and engaging its stakeholders.

This is Buckingham Group Contracting Head Office’s 13th year of business carbon footprint reporting and Planet Mark certification. Since certifying to Planet Mark, the company has set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually.

The company has also measured its social value contributions. This refers to the net social and environmental benefits generated by their team. Measuring social value gives a holistic insight into its positive contributions to the environment and society, demonstrating its commitment to contributing to a better planet for all meaningfully.

“Buckingham Group are stalwarts of the Planet Mark community. As expected, the company continues to go from strength to strength regarding its work in sustainability. The Group is a keen contributor to our community, building connections and sharing expertise to create change beyond its own operations. This is the spirit we all need to embrace to make an impact on the level we need. I am so proud to play a part in Buckingham Group’s progress over our twelve year partnership, and wish them all the best in the next year.”
Sarah Balfour
Group Environment and Sustainability Manager
Buckingham Group
“Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd is delighted to have secured Planet Mark certification for the 13th consecutive year. The lessons we have learned in reducing our emissions, along with the support and help we have received from the Planet Mark team, are fundamental to our approach as we now start the journey towards Net Zero Carbon. To achieve our goal of Net Zero Carbon by 2050 we have, with Planet Mark’s support, established the strategic pathway and with their continuing support we are focussing on measuring, in detail, our Scope 3 emissions and developing the action plan that is critical to achieving our goal.”

Certification story

Buckingham Group provides a range of stand-alone, or fully integrated services, in building, civil engineering, demolition, land remediation, land restoration, sports & leisure, and rail to public and private sector clients throughout the UK and Ireland. Sustainability is at the core of the group’s activities, as they invest in systems, processes, plants and equipment to measure and minimise carbon emissions in construction, and in the end-use of its completed projects. The group has robust energy and fleet consumption targets and regularly engages its supply chain to create sustainable solutions in its work.

The built environment is responsible for up to 40% of the UK’s carbon emissions. It is imperative that the sector begins to eliminate its emissions if society is to hit any of its agreed carbon reduction goals. However, low carbon construction is foreseeable, realistic and a potentially cost-effective means of combating climate change. Companies in the built environment should embrace new technologies and engage supply chains to create widespread, holistic change in our buildings.
