Lethbridge, an established, family-owned building and decorating company specialising in property construction and renovation projects, has achieved Planet Mark certification.
Achieving the Planet Mark is based on the commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability in its business operations by measuring and reducing its carbon footprint and engaging its stakeholders.
This is Lethbridge London’s third year of business carbon footprint reporting and Planet Mark certification. Over the next year, the company will be working towards reducing its carbon emissions and sharing its journey with its community to inspire others. By being more strategic about its environmental responsibility, it will be able to significantly increase its positive impact and hope to encourage continual improvements within its community.
“It is easy to keep business as usual – it takes courage to set out on a long-term plan to change. I applaud the Lethbridge London team for taking the courageous route, and committing to a brighter future, for its business and its clients. The commitment to continually reduce carbon will give Lethbridge London authority in sustainable property renovations, and give clients peace of mind that the team is doing their work in the right way.”
“The construction industry has a huge impact on the environment. Lethbridge London Ltd knows that we contribute to the carbon emissions from building activities, which constitutes almost 40% of global carbon emissions. We have already implemented sensible steps to help tackle this problem, and recognise we have an important role to play in combatting climate change. Lethbridge London Ltd supports a natural approach. We do not condone mass protests from Extinction Rebellion.”
Alex added, “Working with Planet Mark has not only educated our company, but it has already reduced our negative impact on the environment. It has enabled us to make a positive impact to help protect the natural environment and everything it encompasses.
With Planet Mark’s encouragement, we have introduced a sustainable construction plan that will benefit our clients, tradesmen, the local community and most importantly the planet.”

Lethbridge London has become synonymous with fine work, professionalism and honesty. As well as Lethbridge’s commitment to cut carbon, the company has a number of policies and membership to boost its sustainable credentials. Lethbridge is a member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, evidencing care and respect for the local environment when on-site. The company has also pledged to protect one acre of endangered rainforest through a collaboration with Cool Earth, a conservation charity and Planet Mark partner.
The buildings we live and work in are huge emitters of carbon dioxide. They also represent an enormous and cost-effective opportunity to rapidly decarbonise the UK. Low-carbon solutions in the sector must become the norm, and builders must take hold of the opportunity presented to create efficient, green buildings for all. This is in part about seeking sustainable solutions to traditional building renovation projects, but also be about conducting the projects in a manner that is sensitive to the operational carbon. A rigorous carbon reduction strategy will assist builders and decorators in creating business opportunities in a low emissions future.
Lethbridge London is very aware that the construction industry has a significant negative impact on the environment, contributing almost 40% of total global carbon emissions from construction, demolition and materials.
As a company, they are determined to make changes that will help address this problem and recognise their industry has an important role to play in combatting climate change.
The first step for Lethbridge was to find out more about the areas of their business that produce the highest carbon emissions and then to make a plan to take action to make real reductions. The introduction of a sustainable construction plan will benefit clients, tradesmen, the local community and most importantly the planet.
Waste and travel were found to be key areas, so they began by calculating the number of journeys made by van, motorbike & bicycle to see where improvements could be made to improve and lessen carbon emissions. The company has switched from 3 vans and 3 motorbikes to 1 van, 2 motorbikes and 3 bicycles to travel to work and meetings. Seeking to lessen the negative impact on the planet by being more conscious about building waste is important along with swapping to eco-friendly paints and materials.
Lethbridge London has implemented a sustainability programme that educates and encourages employees to be aware of the surrounding environment and how to make small everyday changes to their working lives that combined will help dramatically reduce the carbon footprint. In openly sharing the steps they are taking in helping to tackle climate change they have received a great deal of positive feedback and hope this positive role modelling will encourage other businesses in the industry to follow suit.
Calculating and learning more about carbon emissions has not only educated the company but has already reduced the negative impact on the environment. It has enabled Lethbridge to make a positive impact to help protect the planet and set goals to continue to take action and make improvements year on year.
To recertify next year Lethbridge London must reduce emissions by 2.5%.
A 5% year-on-year reduction is the target reduction recommended by Planet Mark.
