Property Support Services (PSS), one of the UK’s leading commercial cleaning and support services providers has achieved the Planet Mark certification. This is Property Support Services’ second year of business carbon footprint reporting and Planet Mark certification. Since certifying to Planet Mark, the company has set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually.
In this crucial Decade of Action, the company want to ensure that they are a force for good: positively transforming society and the planet by measuring its own impact. Property Support Services are industry leaders in sustainable practice, from recycling and using an electric fleet to cutting plastic waste and supplying sustainable solutions.
Property Support Services’ total carbon footprint ending December 2021 was 50.5 tCO2e, a -28.0% reduction. Property Support Services’ total carbon per employee in the year ending 2020 was 2.9 tCO2e.
Property Support Services have also had their Social Value contribution measured by Planet Mark, this amounted to £148,471 and was derived from its staff, volunteering and community work, and donations.
Over the next year, PSS will continue to work towards reducing its carbon emissions and sharing its journey with its community to inspire others. By being more strategic about its environmental responsibility, the firm will be able to significantly increase its positive impact and hope to encourage continual improvements within its community.
“This is a landmark moment for PSS. The company already has a strong environmental track record, and a good understanding of the broad meaning of sustainability; but Planet Mark certification solidifies all of this work into one, overarching target on their carbon footprint. The team is dedicated to creating sustainable change at scale. It is a pleasure to work with such committed people.”
Through Planet Mark, the company has protected an area of endangered rainforest thanks to Cool Earth; a charity working alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation. Its pledge through Cool Earth directly supports the Asháninka community in Central Peru.
It is also helping the Eden Project – an educational charity building connections with each other and the living world, exploring how we can work together towards a better future.
Property Support Services is proud to be carbon neutral by offsetting any emissions the company has not been able to reduce. Projects to help support carbon neutrality are planting trees within floodplains in Shropshire, supporting reforestation in Brazil, and supporting sustainable energy in Chile. The company has pledged to net zero and has Science Based Targets to keep them in line with a 1.5 degree Celsius world.
Businesses are turning to their supply chains for innovative, sustainable solutions to help reduce their emissions. Companies working in facilities services must respond in kind to this dramatic shift in market forces. From the products stocked to the means of delivering and disposing of products and services, and environmental focus must be applied throughout the business to implement sustainability across the business.
As part of the Planet Mark certification, Property Support Services has committed to making a year-on-year reduction.
