Corporate sustainability efforts are becoming more strategic, as businesses realise that being a force for good in society is inextricably linked to profitability. But in a rapidly changing world with pressing challenges, consumers are demanding more and expectations are growing. Stakeholders, consumers, NGOs and investors are pushing for radical transparency at the product level as well as organisational.
The new Lumia range developed by Rentokil, provides a clear lens through which to see the power of innovation. This presents a host of opportunities for businesses to design, produce and distribute low-carbon products, allowing consumers to reduce the emissions they create in the using and disposing of them.
The Lumia fly control unit introduced in May this year is the first in the UK to use energy efficient LEDs to transmit Ultraviolet (UV) light. An efficiency attribute measured and reported by Planet Mark sustainability certification. Through analysing its operational performance, the Lumnia range presented a notably lower energy consumption and carbon footprint per hour of operation. When compared to similar products, this delivers an average 61% saving in energy. Additionally, the products LEDs can last at least three years, compared to standard tubes which need to be replaced annually.
