Stanhope PLC, a developer, investor and asset manager with specialist expertise in property, construction, finance, and more, has achieved Planet Mark certification. Achieving the Planet Mark is based on the commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability in its business operations by measuring and reducing its carbon footprint and engaging its stakeholders.
This is Stanhope PLC’s third year of business carbon footprint reporting and Planet Mark certification. Since certifying to Planet Mark, the company has set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually. Stanhope PLC has also measured its Social Value contribution, amounting to ££84,306, and was derived from your people, community and volunteering, donations, and environmental impacts.
Over the next year, the company will be working towards reducing its carbon emissions and sharing its journey with its community to inspire others. By being more strategic about its environmental responsibility, the company will be able to significantly increase its positive impact and hope to encourage continual improvements within its community.
“Stanhope has put a huge amount of effort into its sustainability agenda. From the buildings it work with to the offices the team resides in, the whole supply chain is evaluated for the purpose of environmental gains. The company also has a well rounded view of sustainability, one that pushes beyond carbon, to incorporate the value of communities and social sustainability. But underpinning all of this is a tremendous decrease in carbon footprint. I’m proud to work with Stanhope and hope to continue seeing such fantastic progress.”
’We are delighted to have undertaken our direct business carbon emissions footprint and social value calculation with Planet Mark. Stanhope believes that fundamentally, sustainability makes good business sense. Climate change, health and wellbeing and other environmental issues have taken centre stage and are impacting all areas of our lives more now than ever. Together with Planet Mark we are looking at ways to improve year-on-year and are committed to using innovative solutions to see real results. “
Stanhope has made a number of commitments to sustainability in addition to its Planet Mark certification. The company aims to reduce its carbon footprint in line with a World Green Building Council Net Zero Commitment and grasp the opportunity to make a positive social contribution where possible. The Stanhope has to be ‘Climate Positive’ from last year. For 2019-2020 onwards, Stanhope has elected to offset its emissions following advice from UKGBC; via carefully selected Gold Standard certified offsets, twinned with woodland carbon capture certified through the Woodland Carbon Code.
Real estate is one of the largest contributors to climate change in the UK. Buildings emit a huge amount of carbon, from the emissions of construction, through occupational emissions, to the emissions created through design. Measuring and cutting carbon must include a whole lifecycle approach to sustainability. Sustainable real estate companies have a huge opportunity to lead the industry in best practices as society revolutionises its building stock to meet its climate goals.
As part of the Planet Mark certification, Stanhope has committed to making a year-on-year reduction.
