Unum, a leading provider of employee benefits has achieved the Planet Mark certification. As a values-driven, purpose-led organisation, Unum wants to ensure that they are a force for good: positively transforming society and the planet.
Through their ongoing commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, Unum has a longstanding history of giving back to those most in need within its communities. Looking to strengthen its environmental credentials, the company is working with Planet Mark to reduce its carbon emissions and deliver the most environmental and societal value.
The company has also measured its social value contributions which amounted to £2,280,676. This refers to the net social and environmental benefits generated by its team. Measuring its social value gives a holistic insight into its positive contributions to not only the environment but also to society, demonstrating its commitment to meaningfully contribute to a better planet for all.
By being more strategic about its environmental responsibility, it will be able to increase its positive impact significantly and hopes to encourage continual improvements within its community.
Through Planet Mark, Unum has protected endangered rainforest thanks to Cool Earth; a charity working alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation. Its pledge through Cool Earth directly supports the Asháninka community in Central Peru.
It has also helped the Eden Project – an educational charity building connections with each other and the living world, exploring how we can work together towards a better future.
To recertify next year Unum must reduce emissions by 2.5%.
A 5% year-on-year reduction is the target reduction recommended by Planet Mark.
